Charlotte’s Top Indoor Pickleball Courts—and What Paddle to Bring

As a pickleball trainer, I’ve watched Charlotte’s pickleball scene explode in popularity. Whether you're a beginner just discovering the joy of pickleball or a seasoned player honing your skills, Charlotte offers fantastic indoor courts perfect for year-round play. Here’s my insider guide to the top spots in the Queen City—and exactly which paddle I recommend you bring along!

Why Indoor Pickleball?

We all know that Charlotte’s summers can be hot, and winters bring unpredictable weather. Indoor pickleball courts have become a game-changer for us here in Queen City, offering consistent conditions, smooth court surfaces, and the ability to play comfortably, no matter the season.

1. Pickleball Charlotte (Multiple Locations)

With multiple locations across Charlotte—including Ballantyne, Sharon Lakes, Northlake, and Granite Street—this is a go-to spot for competitive leagues, casual open play, and expert instruction.

Recommended Paddle Type: A midweight paddle with a polymer core and fiberglass face is ideal here. It provides control for dinking but enough pop for drives and competitive play.

2. Rally Pickleball (Southside/LoSo)

Rally Pickleball combines the excitement of pickleball with a relaxed, social atmosphere. With food, drinks, and lounge spaces, it’s perfect for players seeking a vibrant community experience.

Recommended Paddle Type: Choose a lightweight paddle with a larger sweet spot. It helps with quick reaction time during fast exchanges and is forgiving for newer players.

3. Tipsy Pickle (Camp North End)

Unique and lively, Tipsy Pickle offers great Tex-Mex cuisine, golf simulators, arcade games, and pickleball under one roof. It’s ideal for weekend outings with friends.

Recommended Paddle Type: A versatile, all-court paddle with a balanced weight distribution works well here. It supports a mix of social and competitive play.

4. The Picklr (Uptown/North Tryon)

Opening soon, The Picklr promises to be Charlotte’s premium pickleball destination. With pro-level facilities, this venue will cater to serious players and competitive enthusiasts.

Recommended Paddle Type: Opt for a carbon fiber paddle with a textured surface for spin and power. Best suited for intermediate to advanced players.

5. The Dinkery & Carolina Pickleball Club

Smaller, intimate clubs like The Dinkery and Carolina Pickleball Club offer strong communities, skill-based sessions, and personalized instruction, creating tight-knit player connections.

Recommended Paddle Type: A balanced composite paddle that offers both control and responsiveness is great for drilling, learning, and competitive matches alike.

6. Sports Connection – Northlake

This versatile complex offers 8 indoor hard courts available for reservation. It’s a solid option for both training and casual play, especially for players in North Charlotte.

Recommended Paddle Type: A fiberglass-faced paddle with a soft polymer core helps absorb shock on harder surfaces and improves control in extended rallies.

Bonus: Lake Norman’s Serve Pickleball + Kitchen (Opening Fall 2025)

Soon, players just north of Charlotte will enjoy an impressive new indoor facility complete with dining, pro-shop, and entertainment.

Recommended Paddle Type: A midweight all-around paddle is perfect here, catering to both casual play and more serious rallies.

Pro Tips for Choosing Your Paddle

  • Weight: Light paddles improve quickness; heavier ones enhance power.

  • Shape and Grip: Longer paddles add reach; grip size impacts comfort and control.

  • Core Material: Polymer honeycomb cores provide quieter play and improved control—ideal for indoor play.

  • Surface: Choose carbon fiber for more power and fiberglass for better touch and forgiveness.
